Ten hill towns. Ten dark nights. Ten stories you won't forget.
From a walking coffin in Pinjore to a vampire hiding in plain sight in Shimla. From a witch at the water tank in Chail to a basement full of secrets in Mussoorie. From a little ghost in Dehradun who only wanted to be remembered, to a robot that grows stronger every time a town stops using its own hands.
Whispers from the Deodars is a collection of ten horror stories set across the hill towns of northern India — Pinjore, Kasauli, Chail, Shimla, Dalhousie, Delhi, Lansdowne, Mussoorie, Dehradun, and Nainital. Some will make you jump. Some will make you laugh. One or two might make you look behind you before you turn off the light.
This is the debut collection from Viaansh, written at age eight during his 2026 summer holidays, inspired by a lifelong love of Ruskin Bond's stories of the hills. Alongside the ten tales, the book includes a map of the hill towns, a note from the author, and a short piece on the real places behind each story.
