Description

What do you do when the diagnosis doesn’t fit, the treatment fails, or the story runs deeper than symptoms? This handbook takes you beneath the surface of clinical medicine—into the genome.

Blending real-world cases with practical guidance, this handbook equips clinicians to recognize when genetics matters, choose the right tests, and translate complex genomic data into better patient care.
Grounded in the realities of Indian healthcare and its extraordinary genetic diversity, this handbook is a concise, clinically focused guide to using genomics not as theory but as a powerful extension of everyday medical practice.

About the Author

Vinod Scaria, MBBS, Ph.D., is a clinician-turned-computational biologist. His work focuses on genome function, variation, and their impact on human disease.
He has played a pivotal role in advancing genomics in India, contributing to the first Indian genome sequence and leading the IndiGen program—India's first large-scale population genomics initiative—along with Dr. Sridhar Sivasubbu. He also co-founded and helped build one of the country’s largest rare disease research networks—GUaRDIAN—significantly shaping genomic diagnostics and screening efforts nationwide.
Dr. Scaria has also contributed to international population genomics projects and developed widely used genomic resources for disease research. During the COVID-19 pandemic, his lab led efforts in SARS-CoV-2 genomic epidemiology and surveillance in India.
He trained in medicine at Calicut Medical College and earned his Ph.D. in from the University of Pune. He has authored over 250 well cited scientific publications and is a recipient of multiple honors, including the CSIR Young Scientist Award and fellowships from leading international scientific societies.
