Description

The Book ‘Ram Charit Manas’ is a famous classical narration of the epic story of the Ramayana that describes the life and time of Lord Ram, who was a human manifestation of the Supreme Being. It was written by the illustrious poet-saint of India known as Goswami Tulsidas.
‘Ram Charit Manas’ is a highly revered Holy Book that stands out as being unique amongst all other renderings of Lord Ram’s divine story, known as the ‘Ramayana’, by the virtue of the beauty of its narrative style and poetry, the heart-touching melody and the devotional quotient inherent in its verses, as well as for the depth and profundity of its spiritual messages and metaphysical contents.
The Book ‘Ram Charit Manas’ is divided into 7 Cantos, named Baal Kand, Ayodhya Kand, Aranya Kand, Kishkindha Kand, Sundar Kand, Lanka Kand, and Uttar Kand.
Since my English rendering of this Holy Book is a voluminous one, it is divided into many volumes. The present volume no. 1 contains Part 1 of Canto 1, known as the ‘Baal Kand’ of Ram Charit Manas. It covers the Text from the beginning to Doha no. 97.
Briefly, this volume no. 1 covers the following topics: The Essence & Spirit of Sri Ram Charit Manas; the Preamble of the book; the Outline of the Story; the Main Characters; the Importance and Significance of Lord Ram’s holy name as well as of the story and the book ‘Ram Charit Manas’; the Genesis of the Story; the Various Reasons why the Supreme Being had to assume a human form and come down to earth as Lord Ram; the Principal Narrators; and the 1st part of the episode of Lord Shiva’s marriage with Parvati.
Our Book contains the Original Text of Ram Charit Manas followed by Roman Transliteration of the verses, and then a comprehensive and analytical narrative of the Text in English, explaining it thoroughly and from different perspectives verse-by-verse, aided by detailed notes and references.
The other volumes that follow in this series will carry on with the magnificent narrative of Ram Charit Manas in a step-wise manner.
