Vedic society operated under the principle of equal opportunity for all, as demonstrated by this book through an abundance of verses and over a dozen elucidated examples. Hence, the book's aim is unequivocally clear: to elucidate the absence of a birth-based caste system in Vedic society and the lack of its promotion within any Sanatan scriptures.
Caste literally denotes "chaste" or "pure, separated." Varna literally translates to "colour." 'Vr' serves as the root word of Varna in Sanskrit, signifying "To cover, conceal, to choose, to support or nourish, or select." In essence, while caste primarily emphasises "purity" and "separation," implying hierarchy and distinctions in social order, Varna enables individuals to "choose or select," thereby facilitating the integration of people to fulfil their roles within the societal framework.
Furthermore, this book endeavours to dispel the misconception that Varna equates to caste, as commonly perceived. I have gone a step further to assert that Varna is diametrically opposed to caste.
