The pharmacy profession has undergone remarkable transformation from its ancient origins in
traditional healing practices to its current status as a sophisticated healthcare discipline
integrating pharmaceutical sciences, clinical practice, and patient care. This chapter provides a
comprehensive examination of the historical evolution of pharmacy in India, tracing its
development from traditional systems of medicine through colonial influences to modern
pharmaceutical education and practice. The chapter explores the contemporary landscape of
pharmacy education, industry growth, and professional organizations that shape the field today.
Dr. Dev Prakash Dahiya, M.Pharm., Ph.D., MBA., FAGE, FABAP currently working as
Professor& Dean in School of Pharmacy, Abhilashi University, Mandi (H.P). He is
having vast experience of 24 years in Academics as Professor, Principal, Dean &
Director in India and abroad. He has completed his education from College of
Pharmaceutical Sciences, Manipal. He has completed his research degree and
Doctorate under the guidance of Prof. K. K. Shrinivasan MAHE Manipal. He has
published 112 review and research papers in Peer reviewed National& International
Journals and 30 abstracts. In his credit there are 2 International and 1 National
Patent. He has published 3 books, guided 33 M.Pharm and 4 Ph. D students under
Mrs. Anchal Sankhyan, M. Pharm (PhD) currently working as Associate Professor
in Pharmaceutics, School of Pharmacy, Abhilashi University is a learned teacher
having 6.5 years of academic experience with administrative skills. She has
published 21 national and international research papers in various peer reviewed
journals. She has presented her research work in various national and international
conferences. Her area of interest is novel drug delivery systems.
Mr. Yogesh Gautam M Pharm (PhD) is working as Assistant Professor of
Pharmaceutics in School of Pharmacy, Abhilashi University. He is having 2.5 years
of teaching experience. He has published around 10 research papers in national
and international journals. He is an expert researcher with area of expertise in
nanotechnology.

Director in KIPM, Gorakhpur. He has received 5 Awards namely National Talent Award 2025, FABAP Fellow
Award 2024, Mahatama Jyotiba Phule Excellence Award 2023, Channakya Samaan 2023, Shikshak Shri Award
2021. He has attended many conferences and presented papers served as evaluator and also session chair.
He was also honored as Guest of Honour in few conferences. He is a CCSEA nominee by Ministry of Fisheries,
Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India. He is Life Member of Indian Society of Pharmacognosy
and APTI and a Registered Pharmacist in Delhi Pharmacy Council.
