Description
"Velvet Monologues" is a poetry collection for every heart that felt too much and every mind that stayed awake too long. Born from midnight thoughts and real memories, this debut by law student Durga P Chandran is a tender map of growing up. It captures joy in glitter wrappers and birthday songs, comfort in small acts of kindness, the slow bloom of love, and the quiet courage it takes to become yourself. These poems explore childhood summers, family chaos, first loves, and personal dreams-not through grand gestures, but through genuine, deeply felt moments. They celebrate how love speaks through presence and consistency, how strength is discovered in falling and learning, and how every heart, no matter how much it has struggled, can choose happiness.
For readers who have felt too deeply and wondered if their tender heart was too delicate for this world, This collection whispers back: "your feelings were never wasted, your overthinking held wisdom, and your story matters."
Durga P Chandran is a law student and poet from Salem, India, currently pursuing her undergraduate degree in B.A.LL.B-proving that the heart doesn't always follow the syllabus. Her unexpected journey into the world of words began during the COVID-19 lockdown, when most people were seeking distractions and she was quietly discovering her voice. What started as a personal creative outlet evolved into something more intentional and purposeful. Before publishing her debut solo collection, Durga built her foundation as a writer through co-authoring in various poetry anthologies, compiling and editing several collaborative books, and competing in numerous poetry writing competitions. Each experience quietly nurtured the writer within, refining her voice and building confidence. She is a passionate reader who sees poetry not as a departure from her legal studies, but as a parallel journey of understanding human nature. Durga thinks deeply and feels intensely, valuing introspection and quiet moments of reflection while finding profound meaning in ordinary moments and celebrating the beauty in small, unglamorous acts of love. "Velvet Monologues" marks a significant milestone, her debut solo collection and the moment, as she reflects, "the mini writer finally claimed the whole page." It represents her evolution from contributor to voice, from collaborator to solo storyteller. She writes for the midnight minds, those who overthink, who feel too much, who stay awake wrestling with thoughts and emotions. Her work resonates with readers seeking authenticity, vulnerability, and hope in contemporary poetry, written not from expertise but from genuine human experience, offering an invitation to recognize that tender hearts, despite their struggles, hold wisdom worth preserving.
