Description

Playing It Safe is a powerful exploration of how fear quietly reshapes careers, ambitions, and identities—not through dramatic failures, but through countless "safe" decisions that slowly pull us away from our potential. Drawing on decades of experience as a pediatric surgeon, Dr. Pradeep Sahu examines the hidden psychology of avoidance, defensive decision-making, and self-doubt, while offering a practical framework for rebuilding confidence through sound judgment rather than reckless risk-taking. This is not just a book for doctors—it is for every professional, entrepreneur, leader, and dreamer who has ever wondered whether playing it safe has slowly taken them out of the game.

About the Author

Dr. Pradeep Kumar Sahu is a pediatric surgeon with decades of experience in the care of newborns, infants, children, and adolescents. After completing his MBBS and Master of Surgery (MS) in General Surgery, he earned his MCh in Pediatric Surgery from the prestigious Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh—one of India's leading centers for advanced surgical training.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sahu has worked in both government teaching hospitals and private practice, managing a wide spectrum of routine and highly complex surgical conditions in children. His professional journey has exposed him not only to the technical demands of surgery but also to the psychological realities of practicing medicine, where every decision carries profound responsibility.
Over the years, he came to realize that the greatest challenges faced by professionals are often not technical but emotional. Fear, responsibility, self-doubt, confidence, judgment, and resilience influence careers as deeply as knowledge and skill. Those observations became the inspiration for Playing It Safe.
Although written through the experiences of a surgeon, this book is intended for anyone whose work requires difficult decisions under uncertainty—entrepreneurs, leaders, teachers, artists, investors, lawyers, parents, and professionals of every kind.
Dr. Sahu believes that lifelong learning extends far beyond medicine. His interests include psychology, decision-making, leadership, personal growth, healthcare management, and the intersection of human behavior and professional excellence.
His enduring philosophy is simple:
Knowledge teaches us what to do.
Experience teaches us how to do it.
But wisdom teaches us when fear is making the decision for us.
