Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly transforming microbiology by enabling rapid
analysis of complex biological data. Machine learning and deep learning can support microbial
identification, disease diagnosis, antimicrobial resistance (AMR) prediction, genomic analysis,
microbiome studies, and antimicrobial drug discovery. AI can analyze microscopy images,
genomic sequences, mass spectrometry profiles, and clinical datasets to identify patterns that
may be difficult to recognize using conventional methods. In AMR research, AI can help
predict resistance and antimicrobial susceptibility, supporting faster therapeutic decisions. AI
also facilitates drug discovery through target identification, virtual screening, and drug
repurposing. Integration of AI with next-generation sequencing, CRISPR diagnostics, and
other molecular technologies further expands its applications.
