Varna System (eBook)

The Framework for Social Organization

Language: English

Available Formats: PDF

Description

This book emerged from the journey of a research paper on the Varna System as a framework for social organization. The research examines Varna through karma-based occupational classification, occupational tendency, the 64 Gotras, Nakshatra Varna, Avarna, Dwaita, and the relationship between Varna, caste, and reservation.

The Kedi Purana presents related ideas through a philosophical and storytelling framework. The research paper, in contrast, presents the subject through research notes, structured analysis, classifications, and academic terminology. This book takes a different approach: it explains the same underlying framework in basic, simple, and practical language.

The purpose is not to make the reader feel that they are reading a difficult research paper on social organization. Instead, the aim is to make the framework understandable through simple explanations, clear examples, and everyday understanding.

A child should be able to read the book and understand the basic idea of how Varna is connected with karma, tendency, work, livelihood, social function, and social organization, and why Varna is different from hereditary caste.

In this way, the book stands between three forms of knowledge:
Research Paper → Scientific and Structured Explanation
Kedi Purana → Philosophical and Casual Storytelling
This Book → Simple Explanation for Everyone

Some key ideas discussed in the book:
• TOW — Tendency of Work, rather than LOW — Lineage of Work
• Varna is presented as work-based, not birth-based
• A distinction between Varna and caste
• The role of 64 Gotras as occupational specialization
• Nakshatra Varna and Four Drishti as additional dimensions of tendency
• The concept of Avarna — work outside one's primary tendency
• Righteous and unrighteous social functions
• A discussion of capacity-based reservation instead of hereditary caste-based classification
• Varna as a framework for understanding social organization
