Nerve entrapments may occur in varying degrees, leading to a variety of clinical presentations. Somatic neuropathic pain originating from these nerves can have multiple etiologies. Nerve injury has been reported from stretching, blunt trauma, compression with hypoxia, fibrosis with entrapment, suture ligature. The pain characteristics are often having a burning, shooting, or piercing or stabbing quality. Although initially the lower extremity may be intermittent, the pain will usually become constant and more intense with time. Pain is usually aggravated by activity, menstruation or activity. The motto of this book is to introduce the clinician to the multitude of pain conditions caused by lower extremity peripheral nerve entrapment that may be diagnosed and treated with various medical, surgical and physical therapy interventions.
