Description

Reflections on the developments in the field of education, research and sociology during past four decades or so have led me to ask basic questions that everyone seems to know. What is learning? What is education? What is the aim of education? Monocracy of American ethos has blurred the difference between information, advertisement, publicity, propaganda, knowledge and wisdom. Knowledge-economy, knowledge-society and knowledge-superpower have captivated the minds to the extent that even the absurdity of these terms is not recognized what to talk of questioning or rejecting them. What is the reason for this? I have tried to seek answers of these intricate questions based on modern research on the brain functioning and ancient Upanishadic wisdom in this book. Main chapters in the book are: THINKING-BRAIN AND Beyond ; THE ONLINE EDUCATION: BIGGEST EVER FRAUD ON EDUCATION; THE QUEST FOR THE TRUTH; LIFE-LONG JOURNEY FOR LEARNING N. C. Vaidya; V. J. Menon; E. J. Post; L. Allen; D. Finkelstein;
UNDERSTANDING THE LITERATURE; Upanishadic Wisdom Mind and Education.

About the Author

I was born on 24 August, 1952 at Nimoda (Rajasthan). Since my father had a transferable job, my education took place at the government schools at Sawai Madhopur, Bayana, Anta, Baran; BSc at Government College, Jhalawar and MSc at Government College Kota. I began research in 1973 and got a junior research fellowship at CEERI, Pilani in 1974. Unfortunately, on 25 June, 1975 internal emergency was imposed in India that in my opinion was against the principle of natural liberty and also Indian Constitution. My protest led to my imprisonment and also termination of my fellowship. Later the Director, CEERI told me that my fellowship was terminated on the verbal orders of the Rajasthan Government’s top police officer. I got selected for pre-PhD programme at Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar in 1976. I re-joined research work at CEERI and completed my PhD thesis in December, 1978. I joined BHU, Varanasi in August, 1980. I resigned from Lecturer’s post in March, 1984. I was associated with BHU for three years as Pool Officer, and for five years as Research Associate till August, 1995. Then after 17 years I joined BHU as a Visiting Professor in 2012.
