Description

This book has been inspired by many thought leaders.

Frankly, neither the title nor the contents of this book are my original. But you cannot accuse me of plagiarism!

The definition of plagiarism is “to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own”. But is this not what I have done.

Like in the homeopathy branch of medicine, in this book, I have extracted, distilled, and dynamised the thoughts and ideas from over 70 books and articles, including the Harvard Business Review. I have interpreted the complex ideas of C-Suite management in a very simple form. I have refrained from jargon! The language is down-to-earth and lucid. I have edited the important parts of the original articles in a way which will be easy for anyone to understand, digest and apply them in day-to-day practice – whether you are working at TCS, Godrej Soaps, Ghadi Detergents, Whirlpool or at Sun Pharmaceuticals.

I have freely used Harvard Business Review articles, like “Listening to People”, “How Managers Become Leaders”, “Assessment: What’s Your Curiosity Profile?” and another thirty-five more. I have cited these at the end of every chapter.

I have even tweaked the title of my book from Marshall Goldsmith’s title, “What Got You Here, Will Not Take You There”. But beyond that, there is no resemblance.

And all these efforts are because I want to see you at the top, very soon!
I have quoted and cited whenever I have borrowed and used someone else’s words and their ideas.

The style of writing is completely different. It is based on Catholic catechism. It is a series of questions and answers between a mentee, Shreya Tawde and her mentor Varun Gupte. This will make the reader grasp the original idea with more comfort and retain it on the top of mind.

Although these two names although fictitious, they bear a close resemblance to the real people who have come in my life. The names of the other characters in the book have been changed to safeguard their privacy

About the Author

The only reason why the author (Vivek Hattangadi) and 'The Enablers’ exists is to help the underprivileged in the pharma industry get proper learning and development opportunities.

By ‘underprivileged’ I mean those who do not get learning and development opportunities from within the organization.

The focus of ‘The Enablers’ is on the developing the skills of the young brand managers and the frontline sales managers who are the future building blocks of the industry.

Vivek Hattangadi, a perpetual learner, carries with him 46-years learning experience in the pharma industry. He has been mentored by legends like Late Prof. Chitta Mitra and Late Prof. Tarun Gupta.

He started his career as a sales-cum-delivery boy with a pharma stockist, worked hard to become a medical representative. He went on to be the Vice President of an Indian transnational pharma company.

Vivek Hattangadi will soon be 71. Yet, even today, he actively works in the field along with the field staff of clients. This also keeps him mentally and physically agile.

And therefore, the tips he gives in his sessions, are in sync with today’s world realities.

He then blends his learning’s with academics. Nothing which is theoretical and cannot be applied at the place of work!

Vivek Hattangadi has authored five books on pharma branding, marketing and sales. This includes “WHAT THE PHARMA CEO WANTS FROM THE BRAND MANAGER” and “HOW TO GET DOCTOR’S ADDICTED TO YOUR BRAND: 13 UNSHAKABLE LAWS OF PHARMA BRANDING”.

This is the sixth book, ‘WHAT MADE YOU A MID-LEVEL MANAGER WILL NOT LEAD YOU TO THE C-SUITE: ARE YOU READY FOR THE BIG JOB?’ will soon be released.

He is also a guest faculty in many pharma business schools.
