# BASIC MEDICAL SCIENCE

## Volume Two

### Pathology & Microbiology with Public Health

**PCC PRESS White Book Series**

Understanding disease is essential to safe and effective clinical practice.

**Basic Medical Science – Volume Two** is the second volume of the two-volume English edition of the official textbook used in the **Basic Medical Sciences Certificate Program** offered by **PALMS Chiropractic College, Osaka, Japan**.

This volume contains:

* **Part III – Pathology**
* **Part IV – Microbiology & Public Health**

The companion **Volume One** contains **Part I – Anatomy** and **Part II – Physiology**. Together, the two volumes form the complete English edition of the Japanese textbook **Basic Medical Science Manual (基礎医学マニュアル)**.

Unlike conventional medical textbooks that present each subject independently, the White Book Series follows a fully integrated organ-system curriculum. Every chapter in Volume Two corresponds directly to the same chapter in Volume One, allowing readers to progress seamlessly from normal anatomy and physiology to disease mechanisms, infectious organisms, and public health considerations affecting the same body system. This systematic approach provides a logical and clinically relevant framework for mastering the medical sciences.

Designed specifically for chiropractic students and manual therapy practitioners, this volume emphasizes the fundamental pathological and microbiological knowledge necessary for responsible patient care, clinical reasoning, and appropriate referral when indicated.

## Features

• Comprehensive coverage of general and systemic pathology

• Fundamental microbiology, immunology, infectious diseases, and public health

• Integrated organ-system approach matching Volume One

• End-of-chapter summaries for efficient review

• Self-assessment questions to reinforce learning

• **Medical university–level Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) sections** at the end of every chapter for examination preparation

• Ideal for self-study, classroom instruction, professional review, and continuing education

Rather than serving as an exhaustive medical reference, this textbook focuses on the core medical sciences required of chiropractic and manual therapy practitioners. It bridges the gap between basic science and clinical practice by presenting pathology and microbiology in a clear, organized, and educationally relevant format.

Whether you are preparing for professional examinations, expanding your clinical knowledge, or completing the **PALMS Chiropractic College Basic Medical Sciences Certificate Program**, **Basic Medical Science – Volume Two** provides the scientific foundation necessary to recognize disease processes, understand infectious mechanisms, and appreciate the role of public health in modern healthcare.

About the Authors

Jiro Yamahata, BCSc., is the founder of Palms Chiropractic College, Japan, established in 2003, an institution dedicated to the disciplined study and application of true chiropractic principles. A graduate of ITM Melbourne and ICC Japan, he holds a Bachelor of Chiropractic Science and is registered in Japan.

For more than a quarter of a century, he has engaged in the practical and philosophical pursuit of chiropractic, not merely as a method, but as a distinct science of life governed by laws that operate from above-down, inside-out. His work emphasizes precision, specificity, and the restoration of normal function through the correction of vertebral subluxation, rather than the treatment of disease itself.

Through decades of clinical practice and instruction, he has carried this message across Japan, India, Nepal, Malaysia, South Korea, Bangladesh, and Turkey, contributing to the advancement of chiropractic education and the cultivation of skilled practitioners. His teaching reflects a steadfast commitment to the foundational principles of the profession, harmonized with contemporary clinical understanding.

He continues to advocate for a chiropractic approach that does the least to achieve the most, honoring the inherent intelligence of the body while advancing the art, science, and philosophy of chiropractic for future generations.
