Description

Sri Krishna Leelas is a comprehensive literary retelling of the earthly
life and divine play of bhagavan Sri Krishna. Beginning with the
cosmic moment in which His descent to earth is resolved in the
presence of sages and gods, the work follows every major phase of His earthly journey—birth, childhood, youth, kingship, and final days
culminating in His withdrawal from the world and the submergence
of the golden city of Dwaraka into the western sea.

Structured in seven books across thirty-nine chapters, this work traces Krishna’s life through its unfolding stages:

• the miraculous birth of the divine child in prison,

• the enchanting infancy in Gokula, where demons are
destroyed in the midst of play,

• the wondrous boyhood in Vrindavan, where even Brahma is
bewildered and Kaliya is subdued,

• the revolutionary youthful phase in which Krishna humbles
Indra and lifts Govardhana on His little finger,

• the heroic era of Kamsa’s destruction and the establishment
of Dwaraka,

• the royal and philosophical phase in which timeless teachings
such as the Bhagavad Gita and Uddhava Gita emerge,

• and finally, the closing movement of His earthly lila at
Prabhasa and the dawn of Kali Yuga.

What distinguishes this work is that it is not presented as story alone.
Each lila is approached through four integrated dimensions:

1. Narrative

The scriptural episodes are retold with literary richness while
remaining faithful to the spirit and structure of the original sources,
allowing the reader to experience the events as living reality rather than distant mythology.

2. Philosophy

Each episode is explored for its deeper theological and spiritual
meaning—dharma, karma, bhakti, surrender, the nature of the self,
the nature of God, and the path to liberation.

3. Genealogical and Scriptural Context

The work carefully situates Krishna’s life within the broader lineages
of the Yadavas, the lunar dynasty, and the wider Puranic world,
grounding the narrative in its traditional framework of time, lineage,
and cosmic purpose.

4. Divine Mystery

Beyond history and narrative, each lila is treated as revelation: what it discloses about the nature of the Divine, the soul, the world, and the secret movement of grace.

The principal sources for this reconstruction include the Srimad
Bhagavatam (especially the Tenth and Eleventh Skandhas), the
Vishnu Purana, the Harivamsha, the Mahabharata, the Brahma
Vaivarta Purana, and the wider theological foundation of the Vedas
and Upanishads. The work is also informed, where appropriate, by
the great commentarial traditions of Sridhara Swami, Visvanatha
Cakravarti, Rupa Goswami, Vallabhacharya, and Madhvacharya.

Throughout the book, selected Sanskrit verses are included where
needed, along with accessible transliteration and reader-friendly
explanation, so that both the beauty of the original and the clarity of
meaning are preserved.

Sri Krishna Leelas is written for multiple kinds of readers:

• for the curious newcomer encountering these sacred stories
for the first time,

• for the lifelong devotee who has heard them since childhood,

• and for the serious seeker who wishes to engage Krishna’s life
more deeply through scripture, reflection, and devotion.

This is not a book meant to be read once and set aside. It is meant to be revisited—read slowly, contemplated in parts, and allowed to grow alongside the reader’s own inward journey.

At its deepest level, this book hopes to do more than inform or
entertain. It hopes to gently turn the reader’s love, questions, longing, and self-reflection toward Krishna.

About the Author

M. V. Krishna Rao brings to this work a rare combination of
analytical discipline, lifelong spiritual reverence, and deep respect for the art of storytelling. In reconstructing the sacred narrative of Sri Krishna’s earthly life, he draws simultaneously from decades of
engineering experience, a sustained engagement with India’s
scriptural traditions, and a writer’s commitment to clarity, structure,
and emotional depth.

A mechanical engineer with decades of professional experience,
he developed a working method grounded in precision, system-level
thinking, close analysis, and disciplined problem-solving. Those same strengths now shape his approach to sacred literature. The careful attention once applied to engineering systems and analytical work is here directed toward the intricate weave of Krishna’s life across the Srimad Bhagavatam, Vishnu Purana, Harivamsha, and related scriptural sources. That structured vision is visible in the way this work traces genealogies, reconciles variations across texts, and
reorganizes Krishna’s life into a coherent, chronological literary
journey across seven volumes.

After a successful professional life, Krishna Rao turned increasingly
toward writing. His earlier works ranged across science fiction,
personal finance, wellness, meditation, and scriptural
interpretation. That range proved especially valuable in a project of
this nature, where vivid storytelling must coexist with philosophical
seriousness, and where poetic scripture must be made accessible
without being diminished.

Over time, scriptural literature became the natural center of his
literary calling. He recognized that the vast richness of Sri Krishna’s
story was often inaccessible to modern readers—either because of
linguistic difficulty, because the material was scattered across many
commentarial traditions, or because simplified retellings frequently
lost theological depth. This work arose from a long effort to bridge
that gap: to remain faithful to the original spirit of the scriptures while presenting Krishna’s life in a form that is readable, emotionally
resonant, and spiritually meaningful to contemporary readers.

His earlier published works include fiction such as The Eternal Hunt,
Let Us Go to The Moon, and Avleen’s Gold; personal finance titles such as The Art of Saving Money, The Art of Investing Money, The Art of Living Wealthy, and Principle of Pipelines; scriptural works including Bhagavadgita Vachanamu in Telugu, The Characters of Epic Mahabharata (Volumes 1–4), Srimad Bhagavadgita – English Prose, and Sri Krishna Leelas in English; as well as works in wellness and reflective writing such as Obesity: The Global Epidemic and The Inner Architect.

He currently lives in Hyderabad with his wife and continues to
devote his post-retirement years to the study of Vedic literature,
Indian philosophy, and spiritually rooted writing. After completing
major works on the Bhagavad Gita and on key figures of the
Mahabharata, this multi-volume retelling of Sri Krishna’s life stands
as a natural culmination of his long literary and devotional journey.

For Krishna Rao, sacred narrative is never merely mythology, nor
merely literature. Each lila is at once story, theology, lineage, and
revelation. That conviction shapes the heart of this book.

At its deepest level, this work is not only the product of research and
reconstruction; it is also the expression of a personal devotional
journey. It reflects the author’s faith that the eternal stories of Sri
Krishna continue to illumine the mind, soften the heart, and draw the soul from illusion toward divine sweetness.

If you would like, I can also turn these into short publisher-blurb
versions for a back cover or submission package.
