She can see what is coming. That does not mean she can stop it.
Cassandra asks Apollo for one gift: the ability to recognise danger while there is still time to save someone.
He gives her prophecy.
When she withdraws the consent she once gave him, Apollo leaves her the sight but curses her with something crueller: no one will believe a prophecy on her word.
Cassandra refuses to accept that knowing must mean helplessness. Her first vision helps restore a lost brother to her family. But that brother is Paris, and when he returns to Troy with Helen of Sparta, Cassandra recognises a woman she has already seen against burning streets.
War follows.
Now Cassandra must live beside the people she loves while knowing what may be waiting for them. Hector is still her brother before he becomes a legend. Hecuba is still her mother. Helen is more complicated than the woman history will blame for a war.
And Cassandra faces an impossible question: how far can she go to save the people she loves before protecting them becomes another way of taking their choices away?
When prophecy cannot save them, she must find other ways to matter: tending the wounded, protecting whoever remains within reach, and refusing to let foreknowledge become surrender.
CASSANDRA OF TROY is an adult mythological novel about family, prophecy, choice and grief, and the terrible distance between knowing what will happen and having the power to change it.
