Romance is a genre that challenges a writer’s imagination, beliefs and understanding of love. A story that portrays love as an emotion that grows between a man and a woman, culminating in an eternal bond of marriage, reflects mutual respect and understanding, acceptance of each other’s weaknesses, and accommodation, whereas a tale of love in which ego surfaces after the initial surge echoes either a sense of dominance or a sense of loss and complexity. A narrative of pure romance evokes sustained passion and fascination for each other. Romance also reflects the not-so-bright aspects of a relationship – conflict, betrayal, misunderstandings, sometimes resolved, other times unresolved.
‘A Twist in the Tale’ is a collection of short stories in the Romance genre. Each story has a unique storyline centred on ‘love’. These tales explore the emotions that either bring people together or compel them to part ways. Platonic love, too, has romance; it takes the form of companionship and unconditional love. Romance is that delicate emotion that keeps the fire of life glowing. The absence of romance makes life insipid and routine. It is this romance that keeps life going smoothly and harmoniously. What makes life fascinating is this hide-and-seek of emotions. The spark of romance manifests in different ways – as a beloved, a companion, or a friend.
These short stories will engage readers and offer a new perspective on life and romance.
