What If And Always follows the life of Meher, a woman whose long-held, unspoken love for Ali—a man she first met as a child in Sri Lanka—shapes the trajectory of her adult life. Despite their mutual, suppressed feelings for one another over thirty years, life, religion, and societal expectations keep them apart, leading them to marry other people. 
As Meher navigates a complicated marriage with Rohan—marked by his repeated infidelities—she finds solace in maintaining a quiet, supportive, and long-distance friendship with Ali, who remains a constant presence in her life through messages and letters. The narrative explores the complexities of their bond, illustrating how they support each other through various life challenges without ever crossing the line into betrayal.
