Sericulture, the practice of silk production through rearing silkworms, plays a significant role
in rural livelihoods and India’s agro-based economy. Despite its economic potential, the
adoption of agritech innovations in sericulture remains uneven and limited across many
regions. This study examines the key challenges and future prospects of agritech adoption in
sericulture systems. Major constraints include high initial investment costs, lack of technical
awareness among farmers, limited access to digital infrastructure in rural areas, and
inadequate training and extension services. Additionally, small-scale farmers often face
difficulties in integrating precision farming tools, IoT-based monitoring systems, and
automated rearing technologies due to financial and educational barriers. Climate variability
and disease outbreaks in silkworms further intensify the need for advanced technological
interventions, yet adoption remains slow.
