In this humorous autobiography, the author describes his early life and his exciting experience in the Indian Telecom sector. Coming from a humble family background, he qualified as a mechanical engineer and in the nick of time decided to enter the telecom field, the one decision which he never regretted. The telecom technology evolved at a rapid pace in the four decades of last century while the country was struggling to meet the demand for telephone connections. In the extreme scarcity situation, the author gave high priority to the objective of ‘fast growth with quality service’.

About the Author

The author is an alumnus of one of the oldest engineering colleges
in the country, the College of Engineering, Guindy.
He joined the Indian Telecommunication Service in the year 1964.
He worked in the field of Telecom for 37 years in every segment
of Telecom. He retired from DOT in the year 2001 as Member,
Telecom Commission.
The author started his career in the Telecom Research wing
and was one of the main designers of the ‘Indian Crossbar System’
to suit the high calling rate condition in India. He was deputed to
assist the Yemen Arab Republic in their Telecom Development Projects.
At the time when telephone penetration was abysmally low,
he laid stress on the rapid growth of telecom networks and achieved
success in providing telephones on demand.
He was nominated for the ‘Padma Shri’ award in the year 1999 by the DOT.
